Today, I started my tour through Eastern Germany. My first destination is Eisenach in Thuringia. As today was a normal working day the streets were free and the traffic flew easily. When I arrived at my hotel, I was greeted by Saruman who is carved in wood and stands just in front of the hotel. As I started quiet to late on my tour, I arrived too late to visit Wartburg Castle today. As the weather was okay, the sun was hidden behind thick clouds, but it was dry, I instead went sightseeing in town. The town is a nice mix of old houses in timber frame construction, Jugendstil mansions and modern buildings.

If you are interested in history, art and culture there are lot of places to discover in this town. The town is over 850 years old and has born several celebrities. Best known is probably Martin Luther who translated the Bible into German. Also Johann Sebastian Bach was born here. To remember these guys there are statues to show respect for their work. Also there are museums to show there life. For Johann Sebastian Bach it is situated in the Bachhaus, for Martin Luther in the Lutherhaus. If you are very interested in history and brought more time with you then I did than there are even more museums to visit for you.

I walked through the city centre and had a look at every church, seven in total. They vary in size and are integrate in the structure or have some free space around them.

Yesterday, the local handball team won a match and will play next season in the premier league. So all fans gathered on the square in front of the town hall and celebrate with loud music, beer and Thuringia sausages, so did I 😉

Tomorrow, I will go and visit the Wartburg Castle.
